Benefits cap means many won’t get the £1,000 promised by Chancellor

Tens of thousands of families will miss out on extra financial support designed to help people through the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic due to a cap on benefits.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) is now calling on the Government to temporarily lift the existing cap so that the 76,000 families affected will receive the extra £1,000 in Universal Credit benefits promised by the Chancellor to help them through the crisis.
